Project Role and Scope of Work

As part of our CM Term Agreement, IH provided construction management and inspection services for the new Harrison PATH Station in Harrison, NJ. The project replaced the old station built in 1936.

The demolition and reconstruction of the two existing station houses on the west side of Frank E. Rodgers Blvd. into one new station involved the demolition of two existing PATH Harrison station houses and two platforms, and the installation of four new station houses and two new platforms, including temporary platforms for staging and new retaining wall structures to stabilize existing embankment and enable Amtrak 4th track installation.

The new station and approaches included drilled deep foundations, a reinforced concrete and steel structure with architectural steel and glass curtain walls, construction of an electric transformer structure, communications systems, elevators, escalators, photovoltaic roof, and hardscaped granite plazas for this LEED approved facility. 

The PATH Harrison Station serves 12 counties in the State of New Jersey and some 7,000 commuters daily.  Ridership is projected to grow 75% over the next decade. The new station is located on the east side of Frank E. Rodger’s Boulevard, across from the site of the old station, and is a centerpiece for the town’s new redevelopment. The new glass-and-steel facility features longer platforms to accommodate 10-car trains, compared to the previous eight-car train limit, and the project has improved access to elevated tracks and is handicap accessible.
