Project Role and Scope of Work

IH served as a sub-consultant to AECOM for the biennial inspection of the Betsy Ross Bridge. The complex structure carries eight lanes and has a length of 8,485 feet.

IH’s scope of work included the inspection of the top of deck, signal gantries, three (3) approach structures, walkways, electrical substations, administration building, and the toll tunnel and plaza. Several structural members required fatigue-prone detail inspection. Inspection reports were submitted using ECMS “I” form format and all work was performed in accordance with PONTIS/CoRe Bridge Safety Inspection standards, PennDOT’s BMS2 System (including the successful implementation of tasks as outlined in PennDOT’s Publication #238 and adherence with Publication 100A) as well as NJDOT and Federal standards.

IH also served as a sub-consultant to Amman & Whitney in 2008 and AECOM in 2010 for the Biennial Inspection of the Betsy Ross Bridge. IH was responsible for the inspection of two (2) approach structures and the top of the deck in 2008; then three (3) approach structures, walkways, and the toll tunnel and plaza in 2010.
